Mrs. Kitty, sleek and fat,
(Hold up thumb of right hand)

With her kittens four,
(Fold back thumb, and hold up 4 fingers)

Went to sleep upon the mat
(Fold 4 fingers down, curled under thumb)

By the kitchen door.

Mrs. Kitty heard a noise --
(Hold up thumb of right hand)

Up she jumped in glee:
(Jerk thumb into the air)

"Kitties, maybe that's a mouse!
Let's go look and see!"

Creeping, creeping, creeping on,
('Creep' fingers along table or other flat surface)

Silently they stole;
(Hold pointer finger to lips, like 'Shhhh')

But the little mouse had gone
(Hold up thumb of left hand)

Back into his hole.
(Tuck thumb into curled up fingers)

"Well," said Mrs. Kitty then,
"To the barn we'll go;
(Put fingers of both hands together
to form a peak, like a roof)

We will find the swallows there
Flying to and fro."
(Hands waving, back and forth,
like birds flying)

Mama Cat and kittens four
Tried their very best;
But the swallows flying fast
(Hands waving, back and forth,
like birds flying)

Safely reached their nest!
(Cup hands together to form a nest)

Home went hungry Mama cat
(Hold up thumb of right hand)

And her kittens four;
(Fold back thumb, and hold up 4 fingers)

Found their dinner on a plate
By the kitchen door!
(Form thumb and pointer finger of
each hand into a circle to form a 'plate')

Mama Cat said, "Meow!" To chase
Birds and mice is fun;
But I'm glad that dinner plates can
Neither fly nor run! Yummm!
(Pretend to eat food like a cat)
