Children stand in a circle, holding hands. One child is selected to be the 'gardener,' whose task is to plant seeds in his garden (within the circle). Another child is selected to be 'Scamp', who follows the gardener while making mischief (pretending to kick the gardener's seeds, etc.).
When the gardener discovers Scamp, he asks:
"What are you doing in my garden?"
Scamp replies:
"Following you."
The gardener then asks:
"Who let you in?"
Scamp answers:
"No one."
At this point, the gardener chases Scamp and must follow wherever he leads. He must also imitate all of Scamp's actions.
The children forming the ring hold their hands high so that Scamp may go in and out. When Scamp is caught, he becomes the gardener, and the gardener chooses another child to be Scamp.
If the gardener fails to catch Scamp within a certain length of time, he must take his place in the ring and Scamp then has the privilege of choosing another gardener.
The fun comes in imitating Scamp's actions, who can choose to do some pretty silly stuff!
