It was a mouse lived in a well-a-hum,
There was a mouse lived in a well
And there he lived there very well.
And lickedy too de fall de dey,
Whack fall de dum.

Next come in it was a flea-a-hum,
Next come in it was a flea,
And he fetched a load of tea.
And lickedy too de fall de dey,
Whack fall de dum.

Next come in it was a fly-a-hum,
Next come in it was a fly,
He eat so much it made him die.
And lickedy too de fall de dey,
Whack fall de dum.

Next come in it was a tick-a-hum,
Next come in it was a tick,
He eat so much it made him sick.
And lickedy too de fall de dey,
Whack fall de dum.

Next come in it was a frog-a-hum,
Next come in it was a frog,
And he fetched in a load of grog.
And lickedy too de fall de dey,
Whack fall de dum.

Next come in it was a snail-a-hum,
Next come in it was a snail,
He had the bagpipes on his tail.
And lickedy too de fall de dey,
Whack fall de dum.

Next come in it was a bee-a-hum,
Next come in it was a bee,
He brought the fiddle on his knee.
And lickedy too de fall de dey,
Whack fall de dum.

Next come in it was a snake-a-hum,
Next come in it was a snake,
And he fetched in a load of cake.
And lickedy too de fall de dey,
Whack fall de dum.

The big black snake he swamped the land-a-hum,
The big black snake he swamped the land,
And he was killed by an overgrown man.
And lickedy too de fall de dey,
Whack fall de dum.

This overgrown man he went to France-a-hum,
This overgrown man he went to France,
To learn the ladies how to dance.
And lickedy too de fall de dey,
Whack fall de dum.

When I first saw the lyrics to this song, I immediately thought of "Froggie Went a-Courtin'". The tune to this song, however, is different. You could probably adapt the words to the latter tune, although I'm not sure how well the chorus would fit.

A variation of this song, called "The Frog and the Mouse", dates back to Scotland circa 1549. Another variation was registered, also in Scotland, in November of 1580, to a fellow named Edward White.
