Uncle Joe is very sick,
What shall we send him?
Three good wishes,
Three good kisses,
And a box of choc'late.
What shall we send it in?
In a piece of paper.
Paper is not good enough.
Then in a golden saucer.
Who shall deliver it?
Let's ask our friend, Matthew*,
Hurry, Matthew*, off you go,
To take our gift to Uncle Joe.
*Replace 'Matthew' with the name of the friend
chosen to deliver the gift.
FORMATION:
One child is selected to be 'Uncle Joe,' who sits in the middle of a circle pretending to be sick. During the song, the other children circle around Uncle Joe, squatting suddenly at the words "Who shall deliver it?" Uncle Joe selects one child from the circle, who runs quickly around the outside of the ring before meeting Uncle Joe in the middle. After shaking hands, Uncle Joe takes Matthew's* place in the ring, and the game continues with Matthew* sitting in the middle of the circle as Uncle Joe. Continue on until all children have had a chance to be Uncle Joe.
